Committees With Dynamic Circumstances And Crisis Updates

“Crisis committees provide participants with dynamic circumstances which they must overcome with deliberate thinking and action. Such committees often revisit history and allow delegates to experience and understand historical, social, military and governmental balances firsthand. Reccomended for those with prior experience“

Polish War of Independence

Join us at KALMUN’24 for a compelling reenactment of the Polish War of Independence, focusing on the critical period of the November Uprising of 1830. This committee invites delegates to delve into one of Poland's most significant revolts against the Russian Empire, a bold attempt to reclaim national sovereignty and cultural identity.

The November Uprising began as a spontaneous protest by young cadets from Warsaw's military academy and swiftly escalated into a full-blown national insurrection. As participants in this committee, you will assume the roles of revolutionary leaders, strategists, and key figures from various segments of Polish society, each with their own visions for Poland's future and strategies for achieving independence.

The committee will explore the complex military, political, and social dynamics of the Uprising. Delegates will face the daunting task of organizing military campaigns, securing international support, managing internal divisions, and negotiating with powerful neighbors. The overarching challenge will be to forge an effective governance structure that can withstand Russian counter-efforts while rallying widespread support for the independence movement.

War of Three Henrys

Delve into the turbulent era of the War of Three Henries, a fierce conflict that marks a pivotal chapter in French history. This committee invites you to step back into late 16th century France, a nation embroiled in religious and political turmoil, where the Protestant League, Paris League, Catholic League, and the Loyalist “Politiques” vie for supremacy, each driven by their own fervent ideologies and the unyielding quest for power.

As delegates, you are cast into the roles of key historical figures at the heart of these factions. The Protestant League, advocating for religious reform and freedom, battles not just for survival, but for a new societal structure. The Paris League, primarily composed of moderates, seeks stability and peace, often at the compromise of greater ideals. The Catholic League, staunchly defending the old faith, is prepared to fight to the bitter end to preserve their religious dominance. Lastly, the Royal Loyalists, supporters of the crown, strive to maintain royal authority and national unity amidst the chaos.

Your mission is to navigate through this intricate tapestry of alliances and enmities. Engage in diplomacy, espionage, and warfare while managing internal factionalism and external pressures.

2nd International

Step into the world of international socialism and labor activism at KALMUN’24 with our Historical Crisis Cabinet centered around the 2nd International. This pivotal gathering of socialist and labor parties from around the world, held in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serves as a crucial forum for debating strategies, ideologies, and responses to global capitalism and rising political tensions.

In this committee, delegates will assume the roles of key historical figures and representatives from various socialist parties and labor organizations that were part of the 2nd International. You will grapple with complex issues such as the role of socialism in national politics, the response to militarism in Europe, strategies for international solidarity, and the division between revolutionary versus reformist approaches to achieving social change.

The discussions and decisions within this committee will be particularly intense given the backdrop of pre-World War I geopolitics. As representatives, you will need to navigate through ideological conflicts and varying national interests to forge common strategies that can effectively challenge the prevailing economic and political order.

Czechoslovak Legion

Embark on the epic odyssey of the Czechoslovak Legion with our Historical Crisis Cabinet at KALMUN’24. This two-sided committee will explore the remarkable saga of the Legion's divisions, scattered across the vast expanse of war-torn Russia during the tumultuous years of the Russian Civil War. Delegates will find themselves at the heart of a conflict that is not just military but deeply intertwined with the aspirations for national independence and the harsh realities of revolutionary politics.

As members of the Czechoslovak Legion, you will take on the role of strategists and soldiers navigating a perilous journey across Siberia, battling both the Bolsheviks and White Russian forces while striving to secure safe passage to Vladivostok. From there, your ultimate goal is to return to your newly founded nation in Europe. This journey is fraught with challenges: hostile encounters, treacherous alliances, and the daunting task of maintaining morale and unity within your ranks.

The cabinet will split into two main factions: one focusing on the strategic military engagements with Soviet forces and the other handling negotiations and alliances with the White forces and local communities.

Explore the evolution of Turkish literary arts and ideological currents at KALMUN’24 with our Turkish Literary Committee. This committee will traverse through pivotal eras in Turkish literature, from the Tanzimat period of reform in the 19th century to the establishment of the Turkish Republic, encompassing the Servet-i Fünun, the Fecriati era, and the early Republican years.

Delegates will engage in spirited debates as influential Turkish literary figures, each advocating for their distinct visions of Turkish identity through literature and arts. You will simulate the roles of reformist poets, nationalist playwrights, avant-garde novelists, and revolutionary critics, each contributing to the rich mosaic of Turkish literary history.

The committee’s discussions will revolve around key literary and ideological movements that shaped Turkish thought and culture. From the reformist zeal of the Tanzimat period, which sought to modernize Turkish society and its cultural expressions, to the artistic flourishing of the Servet-i Fünun with its embrace of European literary styles, and through the politically charged atmosphere of the Meşrutiyet and early Republican periods, which wrestled with concepts of freedom, modernity, and national identity.
